Mumbai: The Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) on Tuesday announced the first list of candidates for the upcoming state assembly elections. The list includes the names of 45 candidates including Amit Thackeray, son of the party president Raj Thackeray. Amit has been fielded from Mahim constituency.

Former councilor Sandeep Deshpande has been fielded from Worli. Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray is the present MLA from Worli.

Key constituencies in Mumbai, Pune, Thane, and Nashik districts are expected to be covered in the list.

MNS chief Raj Thackeray chaired a crucial meeting on Monday, where party leaders finalised candidates after reviewing reports from constituency observers. Discussions focused on fielding strong contenders in winnable constituencies, with particular attention on Amit Thackeray’s possible candidacy in the Mahim constituency. However, the final decision rests with Raj Thackeray.

The inclusion of Amit Thackeray has created internal tension, particularly with veteran MNS leader and former MLA Nitin Sardesai, who is a significant figure in the Mahim constituency. He was notably absent from the key meeting although sources indicate he informed about his absence to Raj Thackeray in advance.
